TAS: Hardwood giant faces EGM over old-growth logging
Australia's largest hardwood producer will hold an extraordinary general meeting tomorrowover old-growth logging in Tasmanian forests.
Woodchipping giant Gunns Ltd has been forced to call the meeting under corporationslaw after being presented with a resolution.
The resolution was drafted by the Wilderness Society and supported by 100 shareholders.
The Wilderness Society's corporate campaigns manager LEANNE MINSHULL says the resolutionseeks to stop Gunns operating in 200,000 hectares of high-conservation value forest.
Ms MINSHULL concedes the resolution could falter as some of Gunns largest shareholdershave already indicated they'll vote against it or abstain.
Comment is being sought from Gunns executive chairman JOHN GAY.
The EGM will begin at Gunns' Launceston headquarters at 10am (AEST) tomorrow.
